Benefits

Structured Blogging gives you the tools to create, edit and maintain different kinds of blog posts.

What's In It For Me?

Each post type will look different from others, which provides variety to your blog. But the best part is that your structured blog posts stand a much better chance of being found and read, because search engines and aggregators will pick up the content easier.

Structured Blogging gives you a bigger megaphone; a taller soapbox from which to be heard and to grow a bigger audience.

It's important to note that even after you’ve downloaded and installed the plugin, you don’t have to use the Structured Blogging forms. They are entirely optional and you will still be able to publish normal blog posts - even though the plugin is installed.

Applications that leverage Structured Blogging - and your content

Now that Structured Blogging is in place, developers will start building applications on top of it.

Because Structured Blogging plugins embed information in both your site’s HTML and your syndicated feed, the following types of applications will in time begin to utilize your content:

  • Aggregators, such as edgeio - which aggregates data from blogs.
  • Web Services, for example one that adds your friend's calendar entries to your date book.
  • Shared XML servers, dedicated to one kind of microcontent. For example a Review server such as new zealand coffee review or an event server (based on a local area or particular kind of event).
  • Applications that run in web browsers, like a Firefox plugin for comparison shopping that also reads product reviews.

Structured Blogging plugins have been designed to support open formats, which encourages the growth of applications that leverage Structured Blogging.
